Africa has for so long been viewed as the forgotten continent - a place of exploitation. It is seen as something of the past, but this is still an on-going issue. Resources are extracted and exported from African shores on a daily basis only to be used as an input in products of much higher value. These get imported back to the continent at a much higher price. Africa loses.
